Honoring Resilience: Supporting Abbie Rockefeller’s Journey

At Morrison & Hughes, we have the privilege of meeting individuals whose strength and determination leave a lasting impact on us. Abbie Rockefeller is one of those individuals. As a recipient of the Morrison & Hughes Kid’s Chance Scholarship, Abbie’s story is not only inspiring—it is a powerful reminder of why we do what we do.

Abbie, a student at Augusta University majoring in Psychology, has always been driven by a desire to help others. Her goal of becoming a Clinical Psychologist stems from a deep-rooted passion for supporting people through life’s most difficult mental and emotional challenges. But her path toward that calling was shaped by something far more personal.

When Abbie was just seven years old, her father was seriously injured in a car accident while traveling for work. What followed was not only a physical battle for him, but an emotional and life-altering journey for their entire family.

Abbie grew up watching her father endure chronic nerve pain, tremors, and a condition known as allodynia—where even the lightest touch can cause severe pain. Something as simple and meaningful as a hug became impossible for years. What many take for granted became a daily reminder of how drastically life had changed.

Beyond the physical toll, her family faced uncertainty, delays in medical care, and a lack of understanding from others. There were moments when it felt like their voices weren’t heard and their reality wasn’t fully seen. And yet, through it all, they persevered.

Abbie’s story is one of resilience—but also one of compassion. Rather than allowing these challenges to define her negatively, she has used them to shape her purpose. She understands firsthand how deeply trauma, pain, and uncertainty affect not just individuals, but entire families. That perspective now fuels her commitment to helping others navigate their own struggles.

Through the support of Kid’s Chance and the Morrison & Hughes scholarship, Abbie is able to continue pursuing her education with fewer financial burdens and even greater motivation. For us, this scholarship is about more than financial assistance. It’s about standing beside individuals like Abbie and recognizing their journey.

We are honored to support Abbie as she continues to turn her experiences into a force for good. Her voice, her compassion, and her determination to advocate for others are exactly what this world needs more of.

To Abbie: thank you for allowing us to be part of your story. Your strength inspires us, and we cannot wait to see the lives you will impact in the years to come.

If you or someone you know has been affected by a workplace injury, Morrison & Hughes is here to help. Because behind every case is a family, a story, and a future worth fighting for.
