About Our Commitment

Why We Stand With First Responders

First responders spend their careers protecting the rest of us — running toward fires, crashes, and emergencies that everyone else runs from. That commitment is built on a value Morrison & Hughes shares: nobody stands alone.

Our first responder program extends that protection off the clock. When a firefighter, police officer, EMT, or a member of their family is hurt — in a car accident, a truck crash, or by someone else’s negligence — we step in, explaining your rights, taking on the insurance companies, and pursuing the full compensation you deserve.

This is an educational, “we’re here for you” relationship. We come to your stations and precincts, we show up for department events, and we answer the phone when one of your own needs help. No cost to the department, ever.

What Our Commitment Delivers

How Morrison & Hughes Supports First Responders

Education first, advocacy always. Here’s what our first responder program includes.

Free “Know Your Rights” Presentations

We come to stations and precincts to walk your team through car accidents, off-duty injuries, and how to protect a claim from minute one.

Car, Truck & Motorcycle Accidents

On duty or off, when another driver causes a crash, we pursue your full recovery and take on their insurer.

On-the-Job & Third-Party Injuries

We coordinate workers’ compensation with any third-party personal injury claim so your benefits and your recovery work together.

A Dedicated Point of Contact

First responders get a direct line to our team — no phone-tree runaround when you or your family needs help fast.

Printed Member Resources

Wallet cards and guides — including “what to do after a car accident” — for first responders and their families.

Showing Up for the Community

We support and attend department events, fundraisers, and appreciation days. Partners in the good times, not just the hard ones.

Keep This in the Glove Box

After a Crash: A First Responder’s Checklist

On the clock or off, what you do in the first few minutes after a crash protects your health and your claim. Share this with your crew.

1

Get Safe & Check for Injuries

Move out of traffic if you safely can, turn on hazards, and check everyone for injuries before anything else.

2

Call 911

Request police and EMS if anyone is hurt. Insist on an official Georgia crash report and get the report number.

3

Document the Scene

Photograph all vehicles, plates, damage, road conditions, signs, and injuries. More photos are always better.

4

Exchange Information

Collect the other driver’s insurance and contact info, plus names and numbers of any witnesses before they leave.

5

See a Doctor

Even if you feel fine — adrenaline hides concussions and internal injuries. Prompt records protect your health and claim.

6

Don’t Give a Recorded Statement

The other insurer will call fast. Politely decline and refer them to your attorney before saying anything about fault.

7

Report It If On Duty

If you were working, report it through your chain of command so any workers’ compensation claim is preserved.

8

Call Morrison & Hughes

Before signing anything, call us. The consultation is free — and as a first responder you get 10% off our personal injury fees.

Common Questions

First Responder Q&A

Who qualifies for the first responder discount?
Active first responders — firefighters, police officers, and EMS — and the members of their household receive a 10% discount on personal injury attorney’s fees on personal injury matters. That’s on top of our contingency-fee promise: you pay no attorney’s fees unless we recover for you.
Does the discount cover my family?
Yes. The 10% personal injury attorney-fee discount extends to the immediate household of a first responder on qualifying personal injury matters. When your family is hurt, we’re here for them too.
Does this cost my department anything?
No. Our educational presentations, member resources, and consultations are free. There’s no cost to any department or its members, and members only pay reduced attorney’s fees if we recover compensation for them on a personal injury matter.
Which departments do you partner with?
Morrison & Hughes is the preferred personal injury firm of Cobb County Fire & Emergency Services, with more first responder partnerships on the way. Every Georgia first responder and their family is welcome to the same 10% personal injury fee discount.
How do I get started?
Call 404-LAW-TEAM or request a free consultation. Let us know your department so we apply your discount from the start. There’s no paperwork to complete beforehand, and no obligation.
