A Wide-Ranging Mind Built for the Courtroom
Leon Hilliard Hughes — known to clients and colleagues as Hil — is a founding partner of Morrison & Hughes. His practice focuses on personal injury and workers' compensation, fighting for injured Georgians and their families against the insurance companies.
Hil's path to the courtroom was anything but ordinary. He studied chemistry, philosophy, and Asian studies at Emory University, completed a Japanese-language program through Stanford in Kyoto, and earned an MBA jointly through Georgia State University and the Sorbonne in Paris before taking his law degree at the University of Georgia. That cross-disciplinary background shapes how he approaches a case — analytically, creatively, and from angles the other side rarely anticipates.
He is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and has earned Multi-Million Dollar Advocate recognition, distinctions reserved for trial lawyers who have secured significant results for their clients. He has argued and litigated before Georgia's trial courts, the Court of Appeals, the Supreme Court of Georgia, and the State Board of Workers' Compensation.
Beyond his litigation practice, Hil has advised Fortune 500 companies and startups alike on business formation, intellectual property, and strategy — experience that sharpens his judgment when the stakes are high. Through it all, his commitment is constant: outwork the other side and fight for every client like family.
