Ride Safe This Season

Safe-Riding Practices That Protect You

Atlanta is full of distracted drivers, and even a motorcyclist who makes no mistakes faces real risks. Whether it's a quick cruise across town or a weekend on the Blue Ridge Parkway, these habits reduce the chance of a crash — and help protect your rights if one happens.

  • Wear proper protective gear. A DOT-approved helmet, jacket, gloves, pants, and boots reduce injury — and let us argue at trial that you took every precaution.
  • Increase visibility. Use reflective gear, keep headlights on, and signal early so drivers can't claim they "couldn't see you."
  • Stay trained and current. Take a refresher or advanced-riding course to sharpen technique and hazard awareness.
  • Maintain your bike. Check tires, brakes, lights, fluids, and controls before every ride.
  • Ride sober and focused. Never ride under the influence; fatigue is dangerous too — plan rest stops.
  • Keep a safe following distance. Allow extra room to brake and react (O.C.G.A. § 40-6-49).
  • Ride within your skill limits. Avoid aggressive maneuvers and speeds beyond your training.
If an Accident Occurs

Know What to Do at the Scene

The steps you take after a crash matter for your safety and for any future claim.

  1. Stay safe — move away from traffic.
  2. Don't admit fault — stick to the facts.
  3. Call 911 — report the crash and wait for police.
  4. Gather info — photos, driver's license, insurance, and witnesses.
  5. Get medical care — hidden injuries are common.
  6. Preserve evidence — keep all gear, even if damaged; do not repair or discard it.
  7. Secure legal representation — get the Law Team at Morrison & Hughes.
